A HARARE man is being accused by his wife of initiating his children to be possessed by marine spirits for protection.
Julia Gonho told the court yesterday that her husband, Simbarashe Gonho, has been subjecting her to verbal and psychological abuse.
“My husband brings unknown medicine home, forcing the whole family to perform rituals.
“He is initiating our children to be possessed by marine spirits, all in the name of protecting them,” said Julia.
“He always insults me, saying he was told by a prophet that I am a witch.”
In response, Simbarashe denied the allegations.
“I have never insulted her.
“Rather, she is the one who insults me,” said Simbarashe.
Julia played an audio recording of one of their conversations, but it contained no evidence of Simbarashe insulting her.
Instead, Julia is the one heard saying “munopenga”.
Presiding magistrate, Rutendo Machingura, dismissed the application for lack of merit.
