In a statement to District Co-ordinating Committees and Provincial executive members yesterday, Zanu-PF national political commissar, Cde Webster Shamu, said those who wanted to contest should submit their names and curriculum vitaes to the party’s commissariat department before end of business today.
“All members who are interested to stand as candidates for the provincial chairmanship post should submit their names and curriculum vitae to the commissariat department offices and Zanu-PF headquarters in Harare by end of business on Tuesday 29 November 2011.
“The delegates to this special Provincial Inter District Conference will comprise members of the provincial and DCCs executives and the three chairpersons of the Main Wing, Women’s and Youth Leagues from all the party districts in the province,” he said.
Seven candidates are set to battle it out and these include acting provincial chairman Cde Rueben Marumahoko, former Information Deputy Minister Cde Bright Matonga, Deputy State Enterprises and Parastatals Minister Walter Chidhakwa and Cde John Mafa. Others eyeing the post are Zanu-PF Zvimba co-ordinating committee member Cde Joseph Chirongoma, Cde Betty Biri and Cde Mehlomakulu.
The post fall vacant following the death of acting chairman Cde Robert Sikanyika who had replaced Cde Mafa.
