ZIMBABWE’S renowned martial artist Wilfred Mashaya was over the weekend honoured with the Weapon Champion of the Year award at the World Humanitarian Martial Arts Festival and Seminar in Budva, Montenegro.
The festival was held on Saturday and Sunday under the theme “Stop Suicide” to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.
Mashaya described the festival as a noble way of spreading a message of hope while standing in solidarity with the call to prevent suicide.
He was also honoured by other European grand masters from Poland and Portugal with a Ninja Award and Special Martial Arts Friendship Award respectively.
The accolades recognise Mashaya’s contribution to the world of martial arts, particularly his mastery of the traditional Okinawan art of Kobudo.
Mashaya’s participation was also part of his preparations for the ICO World Championship scheduled for October 15 to 20 in Wales.
