Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Dr Victor Matemadanda, has dismissed claims circulating on social media attributed to him condemning the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, clarifying that those behind the message are impostors.
A video has been circulating on social platforms, purportedly posted by Ambassador Matemadanda, denigrating the proposed constitutional amendment, which seeks to facilitate the implementation of the party’s Resolution Number 1 among other key issues.
Dr Matemadanda distanced himself from the content, describing it as a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation.
“I want to clarify that the video being circulated under the name ‘Matemadanda’ is not mine. This is part of an effort by certain individuals to tarnish my reputation. I have been assigned as Ambassador to Mozambique, and it is completely out of character for me to issue such a statement,” he said.
“I completely disassociate myself with the video.”
This is not the first time the ambassador has had to dismiss parody social media accounts. Under Twitter’s Impersonation Rules, persons posing as others in a deceptive manner risk permanent suspension, though offenders often evade detection by creating multiple accounts.
Dr Matemadanda’s name has been registered on at least two fake accounts, while ZANU PF national spokesperson Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa and other ruling party leaders have also been targeted by similar impersonation scams.
