Manica Diamonds defender Trevor Mavunga is hoping for a strong comeback after spending time on
the sidelines due to an ankle injury.
The tall defender has only made five appearances this season. He limped off 10 minutes into their match against Chegutu Pirates early in the season.
He has now commenced full training.
“I am glad to be back doing what I like most,” said Mavunga.
“As a footballer, you would want to be there with others playing. The urge to be in the thick of things trying to help your team in one way or another will always be there.
“Hence being injured will naturally take a lot of energy from you and you will be hoping to get back on your feet.
“Now that I am back and feeling good it means that I am on the right path and ready to deliver.
“All is there for me now to fight for my place in the team and try to help the squad achieve its goals.
Manica Diamonds coach Jairos Tapera said the availability of Mavunga is a welcome boost to the team but he has to earn his stripes as there is more competition in the squad.
“Mavunga is back training but we need to see him play again and assess him. He adds value to our squad but his situation needs to be managed well. He was out for a long time.
“He brings in a lot of versatility in the midfield and defending areas where we have been good of late
as a team. So his availability will be good for the team considering he brings in variety,” he said.
Tapera said they are now focusing on ending their dry spell in their next encounter against CAPS United in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
“So we are now focusing on our next game, we will be traveling to face CAPS United. We are approaching the game with caution as we need to give them the respect they deserve. They remain one of the biggest teams.
“But that won’t derail us from playing our football. We have played several games without scoring and we are seeking to end that,” he said.
