HULKY Brighton Mazikana out-powered several other contestants to retain the Mr Manicaland Bodybuilding title at a tightly contested event held at Courtauld Theatre last Saturday.Mazikana’s hard work at the gym paid off as he brushed aside a token challenge from Blessing Saunyama who finished second, while Knox Mudzingwa was second runner-up.

While the seniors put up a polished act, the juniors’ category proved to be more challenging as all athletes had adequately prepared.

However, a winner had to emerge at the end of the day and Reginald Pasara was voted the best bodybuilder. Lee Dzinzi was the first runner-up, while the overrated Tinashe Mufushwa was second runner-up.

In the bench press-up competition, Prosper Saungweme won the contest after lifting 180kg, followed by Madini who lifted 160kg.

In the dead lift competition, Obert Chafachaida and Raphel Mutandi had a stalemate after the duo lifted 160kg.

In the female category, Moleen scooped the first prize and was crowned Ms Manicaland.

Manicaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association chairperson Farai Kasecha said it was pleasing to note that the event went according to plan.

“Competition was good as all contestants had enough time to prepare.  I want to encourage everyone to keep on working on their bodies.

“Those who failed to make it this year should not lose focus but aim high next year. I also want to take this opportunity to encourage companies and individuals to support this sport as it promotes friendship and peace among citizens as well as offering entertainment to the locals,” said Kasecha.
