SMOKING and possessing mbanje saw a Chikanga man being fined $70 last week.
Appearing before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Annie Ndiraya, Paidamoyo Gavi (21) pleaded guilty to smoking mbanje.“I admit that I was caught twice with mbanje at Moto-moto here in Mutare, but I am pleading with the courts to give me time to reform.
“I don’t want to go to a rehabilitation centre because I am not an addict. The issue is that I don’t drink beer being the reason why I choose to smoke mbanje,” said Gavai.

Mrs Ndiraya ordered him to pay $20 or serve 10 days imprisonment for the first count and $50 or 50 days imprisonment for the second count.

The money should be paid before today.

In separate cases, Kelven Dzungu (24) and a person only indentified as Tawanda (24) were both ordered to pay $20 for the same offences of smoking mbanje.
