WHEN people come from far and wide and also from different races to a musical concert show the person can only be a superstar.
Zimbabwe’s most celebrated music icon, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, came and did not disappoint his fans at Motoring Club last Friday. The rainbow meeting at Motoring Club last Saturday spoke volumes about Tuku and how he is now a brand.

This was his first show in the eastern border city this year which also explains the euphoria and why some people even drove from Nyanga and Chipinge to get a piece of the action.

SaManyanga as he is fondly known took to the podium around 12-midnight after Nox had done justice to warm-up the crowd.

The Maria and Ndinonyara hit-maker also proved that urban grooves music is now mature and has a following as several of his songs were literally sing-along ones.

However, to show that Tuku is at an advanced level when the Munondipasa Manyemwe hit-maker came on stage the crowd started moving down from the terraces on the track where the stage was set up.

He opened with a new song which was well received followed by the track Huroyi that sent the crowd wild into song and dance.

Yayayayaya Tuku would shout out his signature chant and the crowd would respond Yaya.

Old time hits like Munondipasa Manyemwe, Kanga mhodzi yembeu and Kumbira Muridzi took fans down the memory lane.

Tuku’s manager, Sam Mataure, said they enjoyed the Motoring venue and would stage more shows there.

“The show was fantastic and Tuku really enjoyed every moment. We will use this venue more as it is spacious and accommodates elite revellers.

“We could see white people, Indians and coloureds to show that it is a convenient venue for most people,” said Mataure.

He also hinted that Tuku would release his 63rd album before the end of the year.

Tuku last released Sarawoga album early last year as a dedication to his late son, Sam who died in a car accident.

Local dancehall wonder, I-Finton also rose to the occasion on the evening performing live, while the icing on the cake was a surprise act from Maskiri after Tuku’s performance.
