THE Professor Welshman Ncube-led MDC has appointed four new executive committee members to fill vacant posts following resignations from the party by some senior officials.
The appointments come after the party’s national standing committee met in Bulawayo at the weekend.
Announcing the appointments on Tuesday, Prof Ncube said former legislator Moses Mzila Ndlovu had been appointed acting secretary-general, taking over from Misihairabwi-Mushonga who quit last month while Joshua Mhambi, who was the deputy director of planning, strategy and implementation, had been re-assigned to the position of Secretary for Information and Publicity.
He will be deputised by Henry Chimbiri, who was formerly the deputy Director of policy and research.
“Sibongile Mgijima has been moved from deputy secretary for information and publicity to be a member of the standing committee as director of policy and research,” said Prof Ncube.
Mhambi replaces Nhlanhla Dube, who quit his position and resigned from the party recently while Chimbiri takes Kurauone Chihwayi’s place.
Mgijima replaces Qhubani Moyo, the party’s former director of policy and research, who is taking a sabbatical from politics.
The party has been rocked by resignations of senior officials, most of them in protest over allegations of being disloyal to the party and trying to unseat Prof Ncube.
An alleged “gang of four” comprising Misihairabwi-Mushonga, Dube, Chamunorwa and party national chairperson Goodrich Chimbaira was said to have rebelled against Ncube.
The four have previously said they felt that Prof Ncube was surrounded by a group of acolytes who have convinced him that the “gang of four” would not support him as a leader of the United Movement for Democratic Chance (UMDC).
The UMDC is a new party to be formed through the merger the MDC and the MDC Renewal, led by the former MDC-T secretary general Tendai Biti.
