Four MDC-T supporters accused of assaulting Zanu-PF members in Budiriro on Sunday were yesterday granted US$100 bail each. Amos Mudondo (32), Doesntmatter Mawana (32), Malvin Tinarwo (32) and Trust Muchena (32) appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma facing assault charges. They were represented by their lawyer, Mr Obey Shava.
As part of their bail conditions, Ms Tshuma ordered them to report twice a week at Budiriro Police Station, not to interfere with witnesses and to reside at their given addresses.
Prosecutor Mr Fanuel Madanire alleged that on Sunday the four – clad in their red T-shirts – approached the complainant who was leaving the Zanu-PF offices located at an open space near Budiriro 4 Shopping Centre.
They accused the complainant and his fellow Zanu-PF supporters of setting up their offices at the wrong place.
An argument ensued and Muchena allegedly struck the complainant with an axe on his left hand thumb, causing a deep cut.
The quartet later approached another complainant who was coming from the shopping centre.
They ordered her to chant an MDC-T slogan, which she refused to do and the group started assaulting her.
They allegedly punched her on the shoulders until she fell and stamped on her chest, causing bruises.
