IT reads more like a comedy, but itas real.
A Zvishavane man was reportedly robbed by three mentally unstable men who teamed up and took away his car.
Fortunately the trio could not drive therefore they called a passerby and ordered him to drive off the car claiming that the owner was abusing the car.
The passerby became suspicious of the whole incident and therefore drove the car to a police station where he reported the matter.
Two of the robbers, realising they were in trouble, ran away and one of them decided to drive off in the car, but got involved in an accident, resulting in his arrest.
Tapera Chimhenga (39) was arrested on robbery charges and appeared before magistrate Peter Madiba.
He was acquitted after being examined by two State psychiatric doctors who confirmed that he was mentally unstable.
The court heard that on 26 March, the complainant a Timothy Matanda a motor mechanic at Toyota Garage in Zvishavane parked his ToyotaA Hilux bakkie outside a night club around midnight.
He proceeded to have a nice time at the night club and came out around 02.45am.
Soon after getting into his car, he was approached by the trio and they ordered him to get out of the car.
They then called a passerby only identified as Sixpence and asked him to drive them somewhere saying the owner was abusing it.
Sixpence got into the car and didnat follow their instructions, but proceeded to Zvishavane police station.
He parked at the gate and got inside to report the matter as he was suspicious.
The two unidentified men realising they were in trouble ran away and Chimhenga tried to drive the car but got involved in an accident.
The police found him at the scene of accident resulting in his arrest.
The stolen car was valued at $7 000 and it was recovered.
Chimhenga was acquitted after medical examination and was placed in the custody of his relative. His two accomplices are still at large.
