MISFORTUNE seems to be trailing sungura legend Paradzai Mesi like a shadow.
The Njerama Boys frontman was hit by a car on Saturday morning while taking a walk near his home in Dema, Seke.
The talented sungura musician is urgently seeking assistance for treatment after injuring his right leg.
His daughter, Emelda Mesi, confirmed her father’s condition.
“My father was involved in an accident on Saturday morning while taking a walk in Dema, which happens to be our home area,” she said.
“My father is bedridden at home after the fracture and we are desperately in need of assistance to get him treated.
“Of course, he has been to a local clinic but the fracture needs urgent attention and we are looking for help from well-wishers to assist my father.”
Emelda said the motorist failed to stop and attend to her father.
“Accidents do happen but there is a need for motorists to stop and attend to their victims in such mishaps.
“In this case, he was left unattended, which is very bad. As a family we are not cursing him but we just wanted him to stop and assess my father’s condition because right now we are grounded at home with him.”
She said her father was the family breadwinner.
“A lot has been said and reported about my father, but lately he was doing his best to care for us.
“He has been holding a series of shows to support the family. We are just praying for his speedy recovery so that he can resume his duties as a band leader and father.”
A close associate of Mesi, Spencer Chimombe, said the group was devastated by the news and that their band leader was once again in trouble,
“Paradzai Mesi is one of our legends and in times like these we need to help each other since he needs assistance.
“He was involved in an accident and we decided to make it public so that he can get help. As a family they tried their best, but with the nature of their job they are living from hand to mouth. We are appealing to well-wishers to assist him since he is desperately in need of help,” he said.
Chimombe commended Mesi’s transformation after being helped by businessman Mudiwa Hood, who gave him shelter in Dema.
“We are grateful to people who have been there for him like Mudiwa Hood and it’s good that we still have Good Samaritans in our lives.
“Of course, Mesi had his flaws, but he still remains a legend who entertained Zimbabweans for the greater part of his career,” he added.
Mesi is one of the best sungura legends who left an indelible mark on the local music landscape.
Buoyed by popular hits like “Tiri Huruva,” “Hupenyu Madzoro,” “Pahukama,” “Shaisano,” “Zvadziso Rudo” and “Natsa Kwawabva,” among others, Mesi has been a prominent figure on the local showbiz scene.
Despite problems with alcoholism, which derailed his career at one point, Mesi remains a living legend.
At one time he was living in squalor but he has since transformed himself.
