MIDLANDS Province recorded two attempted murder cases which occurred during beer drinking sprees over the weekend.
The victims were both admitted to hospital after being attacked by a knife and an empty beer bottle, respectively.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incidents.
“Police confirm investigating a case of attempted murder where a male adult was left battling for his life after being stabbed by a knife at Rufaro Business Centre in Chirumhanzu. The incident occurred on 24 December at about 7.30pm.
“It is alleged that Tinotenda Chifamba, (29) of Chifamba Village in Chirumhanzu went into Marange shop and Tatenda Tomu threw an empty bottle in front of him.
“Chifamba questioned Tomu why he was provoking him and this did not go down well with Tomu.
“He stabbed Chifamba with a knife in the ribs before fleeing from the scene, leaving Chifamba bleeding profusely,” he said.
The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene and Chifamba was taken to St Theresa District Hospital where he is admitted.
Tomu is still at large.
Insp Mahoko said they are appealing to members of the public with information which may lead to the arrest of the Tomu to go to any nearest police station.
In the second incident, Insp Mahoko said police in Shurugwi are investigating a case of attempted murder which occurred at Mupatawechando Bottle Store, Matamba Business Centre where a 34-year-old man was left for dead after being attacked with an empty beer bottle.
“On December 25 at around 7pm, Osias Musana of Village Chironde was drinking beer at Mupatawechando Bottle Store in the company one Genius of the same village.
“Musana mistakenly spilled Genius’ beer and a misunderstanding arose between the two.
“Genius allegedly struck Musana with an empty beer bottle in the face.
“A report was made to the police who attended the scene and Musana was referred to Shurugwi District Hospital where he is admitted. His condition is serious.”
Insp Mahoko said police are appealing to members of the public to resolve their disputes amicably by engaging a third party to mediate.
“Use of violence constitutes an offence and leads to unnecessary injury and loss of lives.”
