Zanu-PF Midlands provincial executive council yesterday rejected applications for Central Committee posts by Cde Francis Nhema and Cde Flora Buka and passed a vote of no confidence in its four other members accused of fanning factionalism.“The executive council has withdrawn the candidature of aspiring Central Committee members, Cde Floda Buka, Cde Francis Nhema and Cde Mutingwende,” said provincial secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Cornelius Mpeperi.
He said the meeting felt strongly that Flora Buka was linked to the disciplinary issues in Gokwe North where some members are charged for promoting factionalism. “The executive passed a vote of no confidence in Cde Edmund Mukaratigwa, Cde Fred Moyo, Cde Renius Madende and Cde Manongo for fanning factionalism in the province.”
Cde Mpereri said the provincial executive had also suspended 73 members from Mberengwa, Shurugwi and Gokwe North districts for periods ranging from one to three years. “In Mberengwa, 10 chairpersons who were charged with inciting violence, disrupting constitutionally constituted meeting and fanning factionalism have been suspended for periods ranging from one year to three years.
Five provincial members and 47 district chairpersons from Shurugwi who were charged for holding unauthorised meetings outside the province and receiving bribes to influence the outcome of the central committee elections, were found guilty and suspended for periods ranging from one year to three years,” Cde Mpeperi said.
He said in Gokwe North, three provincial members and eight district chairpersons accused of running parallel structures and fanning factionalism were either reprimanded or suspended for three years.
Cde Mpeperi said the sentences passed on the members are supposed to be endorsed by the National Disciplinary Committee.
He said Cde Chiratidzo Mabuwa and Cde Tafanana Zhou who also accused of fuelling factionalism, had their cases deferred to a later date.
