adminZifa president, Cuthbert Dube, yesterday met the Mighty Warriors squad at his offices in the capital.
Dube gave each player and the technical team members US$50, as a token of appreciation for their brilliant performance against Banyana Banyana last month.
“I have decided to give the players and the technical team the money as a way of rewarding them for the good performance against Banyana Banyana in an International Challenge Cup,” Dube said. The Zifa president also promised the squad that upon their return from Botswana they will receive winning bonuses from his coffers if they beat or draw against Botswana.
“I want to applaud the sponsor for coming on board to support the Mighty Warriors ahead of their crucial fixtures. The sponsor has belief in the team that they can qualify for the championships,” noted Dube.
Dube took a swipe on some board members who he said were backstabbing him, accusing him of funding the association to gain favours, and yet they failed to organise the Warriors’ road trip to Botswana last week.
He added that it was unfortunate that some people wanted to question his loyalty to the national teams.
“As a leader I cannot just watch Zifa collapse. Had I not been in this position, Zifa would have closed a long time ago. On Monday I paid back-dated salaries to Zifa workers, as they have families to look after,” added Dube.
Meanwhile, Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza, speaking on the sidelines of the send-off ceremony, challenged her players to write a fairytale story by qualifying.
