Mine worker crushed to death

A 20-year-old Filabusi man employed at Lyn 24 Mine in Amazon area died on the spot when a front loader he was riding plunged into a pit, crushing his head. Confirming the incident on Monday, Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said the accident occurred on Saturday.
“We are investigating a case involving a mine worker who was killed in an accident at Lyn 24 Mine premises while on his way to fetch water,” said Insp Ndebele.

He said the man (name withheld) was with two colleagues who did not sustain any injuries as they jumped off when they realised that an accident was imminent.

“The front loader was being driven by Mqondisi Moyo (22) of Lyn 24 Mine compound. Moyo and the other man jumped off when they realised that an accident was imminent,” said Insp Ndebele.

The matter was reported to Filabusi Police Station who attended the scene and took the body to Filabusi District Hospital mortuary.
In another accident, a five-year-old boy from Gwanda Town died on the spot when a Toyota Regius vehicle hit him while attempting to cross the road near Phakama Business Centre.

Insp Ndebele said the accident occurred on Saturday. He said the boy sustained severe head injuries and bled profusely.
