THE Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Cde Lazarus Dokora yesterday allayed fears that the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) had scrapped this year’s June Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations. The minister set the record straight at a time when numerous messages were circulating on social media stating that the examinations had been cancelled.
Social media platforms such as WhatsApp were abuzz with messages claiming that Zimsec had been forced to scrap the examinations owing to lack of funds.
Cde Dokora told The Chronicle yesterday that registration dates for June examinations would be announced in due course.
“There will be June exams this year contrary to what people have been saying. Zimsec will announce registration dates at an appropriate time. People should stay in touch with school heads,” said Dokora.
He said they were yet to reveal examination fees as that would be decided by Cabinet.
“I can’t tell you whether examination fees will be increased or reduced, that’s a cabinet decision which is yet to meet over the issue,” said the minister.
Last year, O and A-Level subjects registration fees were pegged at $13 and $26. Since its inception in 1996, Zimsec has never failed to hold both June and November examinations.
