Minister Moyo highlights progress in Matabeleland North at 720MW Thermal Power Plant ground-breaking ceremony

DURING the ground-breaking ceremony for the 720MW thermal power plant and 200MW solar project, Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Richard Moyo emphasised the region’s ongoing development, saying: “In Matabeleland North, things are happening.”
He noted that numerous projects have been initiated and completed, marking a period of significant progress for the province.
Minister Moyo addressed the gathering, declaring that the day represents a crucial milestone not only for Hwange but for Zimbabwe as a whole.
“We are honoured as a province to have representatives from the Government in various sectors,” he said, acknowledging the collaborative efforts behind the project.
Minister Moyo reinforced the day’s significance, saying: “Together we are laying the foundation for a brighter future, one that shows direction for a greater future.”
He described the project as the launch of a transformative vision that will energise the local community, asserting that the power plants will serve as a catalyst for a more prosperous future for all Zimbabweans.

The ambitious initiative, led by Titan New Energy in partnership with Zesa Holdings, signifies a US$1 billion investment aimed at addressing the country’s pressing energy shortages.
With an expected completion date of 2028, the project is anticipated to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and enhance Zimbabwe’s energy security.
The event underscores the Government’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the living standards of citizens through innovative energy solutions. The collaboration between various stakeholders reflects a unified effort to drive progress in the region and the nation as a whole.
