Kudakwashe Mugari in LUANDA, Angola
The Council of Ministers from the SADC region met here yesterday to deliberate on the implementation of regional integration issues in preparation for today’s 43rd SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.
Zimbabwe was represented by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza, Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Joram Gumbo as well as Foreign Affairs and International Trade permanent secretary Ambassador James Manzou.
During the opening ceremony of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Ambassador Téte António, the Minister of External Relations of Angola took over the Chairmanship of the Council of Ministers from Mr Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi, the Minister of Regional Integration and Francophonie of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who was represented by Mr Kibasa Maliba, the Minister of Telecommunications, Posts and Information Technologies.
In his acceptance speech, Minister António said under the chairmanship of Angola, the SADC region will pay attention and focus on human and financial capital as a catalyst for industrialisation guided by the theme; “Human and financial capital: The key drivers for sustainable industrialisation in the SADC region”.
The theme seeks to address two of the most critical enablers in supporting regional industrialisation, namely adequate human resources within the context of climate change and 4th Industrial Revolution, and adequate financial resources to ensure more sustainable funding mechanisms.
Minister Nzenza said they had fruitful meetings in preparation for today’s summit
“It’s been a hectic week where we have been deliberating on many issues including regional integration, security and industrialisation of the region,” she said.
“We have agreed on many issues and we are going to report back to the Heads of States.”
