THE Chikore community was left shell shocked following the discovery of the remains of an elderly woman who was found dead about 50 metres away from her house. The deceased, Mwarasheni Muguruzo’s remains were in the form of a skull and only two bones when a villager bumped into the remains. The remains have since been taken to Harare for post mortem.
Mwarasheni, who stayed with her nephew, Cephas Muguruzo, went missing a fortnight ago but family members thought she had visited relatives elsewhere.
Alarm bells rang after one Mwanandimai Majehwe stumbled upon her remains in the bush.
She quickly alerted villagers leading to a police report.
Cephas said his grandmother’s death was a shocker.
“When I was called by the elders I could not believe my eyes. How can it be?
“In front of me was a skull and two bones, unheard of in the history of our clan.
“She was a unifier and to the best of my knowledge, she did not have any enemies.
“As a clan, we are poorer than before,’’ he said.
Family spokesperson, Innocent Muguruzo, was equally shocked.
“Her walking stick was found 50 metres away from her remains and that is intriguing. Only God knows,’’ he said.
Villagers wonder whether her death was ritual murder or she could have been attacked by wild animals.
