CDE Auxillia Mnangagwa who is wife to Acting President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has won the right to represent Zanu-PF in the forthcoming by-election for Chirumanzu-Zibagwe after two other candidates withdrew their CVs yesterday before the party’s provincial electoral directorate. The seat was left vacant following the elevation of Cde Mnangagwa to the post of Vice President.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) wrote to President Mugabe to inform him of the vacancy which resulted in the Head of State and Government calling for a by-election which has been set for 27 March.

Cde Violet Nhari and Cde Erasmus Jaya withdrew their CVs after the provincial electoral directorate had just started to vet the prospective candidates.

Midlands Zanu-PF provincial spokesperson, Cde Cornelius Mupereri, confirmed the endorsing of Cde Mnangagwa as the party candidate by the party’s provincial elections directorate.

“There were three CVs that had come through one belonging to Cde Nhari, the other one from Cde Jaya and the third one was from Cde Auxillia Mnangagwa. Before we sat as a provincial elections directorate the two other aspiring candidates withdrew their CVs leaving Cde Mnangagwa as the sole party candidate.

“They said they respect Cde Mnangagwa. They also said since the constituency is very big geographically and shares borders with Mashonaland West, Chikomba, Gutu, Shurugwi and Mbizo, it therefore needed someone who has the capacity to ensure the development projects initiated by Acting President Mnangagwa are completed,” he said.

Speaking soon after her confirmation Cde Mnangagwa expressed gratitude to the candidates who withdrew their CVs.

She promised to continue with development projects which her husband started.
