SCORES of Buhera residents last Thursday thronged Vhiriri Primary School in Buhera for free mobile cervical cancer screening as the world commemorated the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence which incorporates four other international holidays .
Spearheading the activities were the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development’s Manicaland Provincial Chapter, New Start Centre, Simukai Child Protection Centre, Nzeve Deaf Children’s Centre and Musasa Project to mention just but a few.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence which this year ran from November 25 to December 10 had four internationally recognised holidays incorporated in the 16 days and these are the International Human Rights Defenders’ Day, World Volunteers’ Day, The Orange Day and the World Aids Day.
The mobile cervical cancer screening organised by the Ministry and Non Governmental Organisations was termed by the organisers as commemorating the five international days through awareness campaign by bringing the hospital to the door.
One of Mutare New Start Centre Staff present at the event, who requested anonymity, said they had the Buhera female community at heart and that there was great need for further mobile cervical cancer outreaches.
She said it was their longing as an organisation that every woman gets screened for cervical cancer so that they know the next step.
