MODEL Thabo Sibanda has been crowned Mr Albinism Zimbabwe 2026, a title he says is more than a personal achievement.

She says it is a platform to champion the rights, inclusion and empowerment of persons living with albinism.

Sibanda, who hails from Bulawayo, won the national title at a colourful pageant held on Saturday at the Marina Convention Centre in Harare.

Organised by the Albinism Dare to Dream Initiative (ADDI), the event was held under the theme “Proudly In My Skin”.

It celebrated confidence, self-love and the achievements of people living with albinism while challenging stereotypes and promoting social inclusion.

Stembile Kafesu was crowned Miss Albinism Zimbabwe 2026, while Tariro Cory and Nathaniel Madondo were named First Princess and First Prince.

For Sibanda, who is pursuing a Science Education qualification at Hillside Teachers’ College, the crown comes with a greater responsibility.

He will represent Zimbabwe at the second edition of Mr and Miss Albinism Africa, with the dates and host country yet to be announced.

He said winning the title had given him a powerful platform to advocate for persons living with albinism beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

He dedicated his victory to every person living with albinism and other disabilities, saying the title is proof that no dream is beyond reach.

“To every person living with a disability, my win is a sign that your dreams are valid and your potential is not limited.

“I encourage everyone to believe in themselves, work hard and remain focused on their goals. Be proud of your uniqueness and never stop striving towards your dreams.

“Being crowned Mr Albinism Zimbabwe is an honour. The event itself was beautiful, but more importantly, it was a great platform.

‘This title gives me a voice to advocate for persons with albinism, work with organisations and brands, and be part of initiatives that promote awareness, inclusion, health and empowerment.

“For me, the crown is not the destination, it is a tool for creating positive change.

‘Becoming a visible ambassador for inclusion and empowerment gives me the opportunity to influence positive development.

“That is what makes this title truly meaningful to me,” said Sibanda.

As he prepares for his reign, Sibanda says his focus will be on tackling stigma and improving access to essential services for people living with albinism.

Among his priorities are advocating for better access to sunscreen, eye care, education and economic opportunities, while strengthening social protection for vulnerable communities.

He also plans to work closely with organisations and corporate partners to expand awareness and empowerment programmes.

“As a brand, I’ll be partnering with willing organisations, businesses and other brands in Zimbabwe to support awareness campaigns, health initiatives, skills development and economic empowerment programmes.

“Through these partnerships, we can mobilise resources, reach more communities and create opportunities that improve the lives of persons with albinism. My goal is to help build an inclusive Zimbabwe where every person is respected, protected and empowered to reach their full potential,” he said.

Raised in Cowdray Park, Sibanda attended St Columbus High School before completing his Advanced Level studies at Sizane High School.

He credits his upbringing with shaping the resilience and determination that have defined his journey.

“My upbringing taught me the values of hard work, perseverance and self-belief. As a person living with albinism, I’ve learnt to embrace my uniqueness and overcome challenges,” he said.

Outside modelling, Sibanda is actively involved in community initiatives that promote awareness, inclusion and empowerment.

He believes education, leadership and advocacy remain essential in building a society where diversity is celebrated rather than misunderstood.
