Mother (65) seeks protection order against son (39)

A MUTASA man (39) was last week ordered to live peacefully with his 65-year-old mother whom he constantly insulted over a piece of land. Having had enough of her son’s bashing and insults, Stella Nyagomo approached the courts asking for a protection order against Edward Tukuta. The two appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Anne Ndiraya, who ordered them to stay away from each other’s premises.

Nyagomo told the court that Tukuta was in the habit of insulting and forcing her to give him half of her farming land. She told the court that she was no longer enjoying peace at her house and farm.

“I pray that the court grant me my wish because I have already disowned him for disturbing me and failing to respect me as his mother. Enough is enough. Since he is a grown up man, he should live his own life away from my homestead,” said Nyagomo.
Tukuta did not show any remorse.

He told the court that the only thing he wanted was part of her farming land.
“We have been quarrelling over a small piece of land. At least if she gives me half of that land I will have somewhere to start from because I am not employed,” said Tukuta.
When asked if he had anything against his mother’s application, Tukuta said: “Your Worship, this woman is my mother and barring me from getting close to her won’t make my life easy at all. I need to check on her from time to time.

“I am a human being and I am prone to mistakes like anyone else. She should forgive me Your Worship. We are a family and we should work together,” said Tukuta.
In her ruling, Mrs Ndiraya, said: “You are hereby ordered to stay away from your mother’s farm and homestead. You have proved to be a bad example of a son.”
