THE inaugural Mutare motor show and street burnouts are set for tomorrow with South African spinners expected to grace the event. The event will see the road being closed along Corner Herbert Chitepo and Fourth Avenue adjacent to Dulys Motors. The event organised by Warehouse Project Events from Harare will be the first of its kind in Mutare, taking the burnouts to the streets.
The extreme entertainment sport of burnouts which is usually orchestrated in a safely barricaded area is now popular locally.
The idea in burnouts is to keep the vehicle stationary while spinning its wheels, causing the tyres to heat up and smoke due to friction.
Although burnouts were mostly common in South Africa, the adrenalin-rush sport is fast growing in popularity in the country.
One of the local organisers, Leonard ‘Lampy’ Tsikira, said all was in place for the event. He said there would be car exhibitions and street burnouts.
“The pimped-up BMWs usually used in the burnouts, mostly the 320 and 325i models will be there. Popular Harare spinners, Fat Cat, Goofa, Spin Kid and Keagan to mention a few as well as popular South African spinner, Spina Guluva will also grace the event. We are bringing a new concept of street burnouts together with a motor show in a friendly family environment,” said Tsikira.
Spinners are expected to exude their skills on the wheels in maneuvers of spinning 180 and 360 turns performing various stunts in the process.
Tsikira said they had partnered with various local car dealers to exhibit cars on the day creating business linkages for them.
