THE 21st February Movement is an important national event that celebrates the life of President Mugabe as a dedicated nationalist and Pan Africanist youths must emulate. Speaking during a fundraising dinner held in Mutare last week, Zanu-PF Manicaland chairman, Cde Samuel Undenge said the 21st February Movement must not be politicized but taken as a significant national event in recognizing the life of a great statesman.
“We want the qualities of the President (Mugabe) to impact our youths and borrow from his unwavering principles. Most of us have often diverged from our principles but President Mugabe has remained a principled man. Based on his resolute principles we are where we are today as a proud nation and this should not be overlooked, which is what we celebrate each year,” he said.
He supported the current drive by the Youth League to turn the 21st February Movement into a public holiday that will be called Youth Day, in honour of President Mugabe.
“President Mugabe is selfless. He stayed 11 years in jail and spent the larger part of his life as a dedicated nationalist. To jealously guard this legacy and ensure the imperialists will not denigrate his chronicles and that of many nationalists, the 21st Movement represents this,” he said.
Each province was given a target to raise $30 000 by the national youth league executive.
President Mugabe turned 92 last Sunday. This year’s celebrations will be held at the Great Zimbabwe Monuments in Masvingo tomorrow (Saturday).
