THE country’s top drivers and bikers will today battle it out in the Total Zimbabwe sponsored annual Bulawayo Motoring Club Peter Parnell Trophy at Bulawayo Motorsport Park.
According to Total Zimbabwe, the participants have been drawn from Bulawayo, Harare and South Africa.
Total Zimbabwe communications officer, Anesu Mutasa, said they are excited to sponsor the race, adding that they are committed to the development of motorsport in the country.
“Total Zimbabwe has remained committed and eager to support the growth and development of motorsport in Zimbabwe. The continuation of the partnership with Bulawayo Motoring Club is a true testament of the potential motorsport possess. As Total Zimbabwe, we provide communities with quality lubes, fuel and technical support that ensure that vehicles are well maintained and can fuel the vibrancy of motorsport in Zimbabwe,” Mutasa said.
Last year’s winner Mano Zevgolis will not be available to defend his title.
Local driver Dean Norman, who has already won the Class A Saloon Cars category with 92 points, will race for pride with Jim Perry, Richard Robinson, Rowan Whyte, Barney Rodgers and Craig Bond likely to compete for second place.
The battle for the Class B Sports Cars title will be a two-man race between John Camerson and Brett Cameron.
In the Saloon Cars Class B, Calvin Radeymer and DenzilBhana are racing for top spot. The experienced Tyron Ferriera, Dimitrios Zevgolis and Clayton Green together with new comers to the division Dareen Pragji and Wayne Jardine are also challenging for honours.
The Saloon Cars Class C will feature Mike Exton, Craig Green, Mike Laing, Alain De Jagere, Mike Bremner and Steve Murton in a highly competitive tussle for the title. The Saloon Cars Class D will feature two contestants, Bob Beaver and Dino Khamal.
Meggli Class in Motor Racing will feature a first place battle pitting Ricky White, Jan Nel and Tristan Grainger.
Bulawayo’s Mike McDonald, Shaun Whyte and Mathew Schultz will compete for honours in the Superbikes Category.
Damian Otto and Jessica Howden, who has made a huge imprint on the international circuit despite having only five months experience, will represent the Monroe Team from South Africa in the Superbikes Category. – @ZililoR
