Mountaineers bounce back in Pro50 Championship

MUTARE franchise cricket team, Mountaineers redeemed battered pride last week Saturday when they beat visiting Mashonaland Eagles by 42-runs in their second Pro50 Championship encounter. The Mountain goats finished the match with 292:246 overs against the Harare franchise team. This was their first Pro50 home match and second in the 2014/15 domestic franchise season after their away season opener the week before, where they lost by 70-runs to Matabeleland Tuskers.

Eagles that had a fine start in their Pro50 season opener after romping to an easy five wicket win over Kwekwe’s Mid West Rhinos were definitely disappointed not to maintain a winning streak in Mutare.

On the other hand, Tuskers playing away defended a middling total of 207 against Rhinos last Saturday and registered their second win in the Pro50 Championship.
At Mutare Sports Club, it was the fifties from opener Kevin Kasuza (89) and Stuart Matsikenyeri (68) that steered Mountaineers to 292 for 7, a total they defended easily against Eagles to complete a 46-run win.

Mountaineers were put in to bat and were 81 for 2 in the 23rd over when Kasuza and Matsikenyeri came together at the crease.
