TRADITIONAL women’s football giants Mufakose Queens continued with their push to return to the top-flight when they walloped Maningi 3-1 in a Northern Region Division One match in Mufakose yesterday.
The team is back in action after five years in the doldrums due to financial constraints, thanks to a lucrative sponsorship deal they clinched with Fineye Panel Beaters last year.
A traditional conveyor belt of talent to the Mighty Warriros and the Young Mighty Warriors, Mufakose Queens have had to re-start from Division One as they try to work their way to being a force in the local game again.
They have so far picked seven points in their opening three matches.
They opened their season with a massive 7-0 win over Chinhoyi Queens before playing out a 2-2 draw against Harare City a fortnight ago.
A brace by Rutendo Madongorere yesterday set them on the path to victory and ensured they keep their unbeaten start to the season intact.
Chido Nyongo added the third goal.
Team manager Annah Kaseke wants her charges to remain focused now that they are back doing what they enjoy doing.
“It’s still early days yet, so we should take it step-by-step,” she said.
“It was a good win, one that helps the girls to gain more confidence as we push gradually towards our goal.
“The target is to return to the top-flight league where we feel we belong, but we will take it game-by-game.
“Morale is high amongst the girls. They are well taken care of, courtesy of Fineye Panel Beaters, and the ball is in their court to deliver now.
“So, in terms of welfare, we are okay. We just hope to maintain the momentum.”
