Mufunda raring to go

NATIONAL University of Science and Technology tennis ace Thesly Mufunda is optimistic of coming up with a positive result at the World University Games in South Korea next month.
Mufunda won the right to represent the country for the second time in a row when he triumphed at the Zimbabwe University Sports Association games that were held in April where he emerged the top seed.

The WUG will be held in Gwanju City from 3 to 14 July and Mufunda will be leaving on Wednesday.
Speaking from Harare, where he is taking part in the 15th national Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) games, Mufunda said he had adequate preparations and was raring to go.

Mufunda was part of the team that travelled to Russia to represent the country at the 2013 WUG in tennis along with Tafadzwa Chitewamise.
“I attended the games in 2013 and as it was my first time I did not expect to meet top opponents in the games and I relaxed in my preparations but this time around I have prepared well and hopefully come up with better results.

“We had players ranked in the top 200 of the ATP tour with the winner in the men’s section at number 171 while the lady who won in 2013 was then at position 55 a sign of the calibre of players that grace the tourney,” said Mufunda, who is also a part time coach.
