adminMOUNTAINEERS women’s cricket ace and Zimbabwe captain, Chipo Mugeri, has she is ready to take the lead and make history for Zimbabwe.
The Dangamvura-born cricketer said this on Wednesday after their flawless victory in the International Cricket Council Africa Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier that ended in Harare on Tuesday.
Zimbabwe won all its matches in the four-team qualifier against Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda that were played in a round-robin format.
The side is now through to the next ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Global Qualifier tournament scheduled for the West Indies in 2018.
Mugeri said she was elated to have captained the side and hope to write their own history in 2018.
“We played as a team and we were all eyeing the big prize at the World Twenty20 Global qualifier to try and surpass our last feat at the international showcase,” said Mugeri.
Zimbabwe Women’s Cricket manager, Caroline Nyamande, said the team was now a unit and has vast international experience to excel in 2018 in West Indies.
From Mountaineers, Pelagia Mujaji was also part of the squad. The duo now has vast experience in the national squad, having played in several regional and international 20-Overs tournaments.
