Mukorera appears in court

Court Reporter
ZIMBABWE Passengers Transporters Organisation (ZPTO) Mutare chairman, Jealous Mukorera (36), appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday), facing two counts of assault – one of which allegedly involved Cde Clide Jani, and happened at the Rekayi Tangwena Government Complex.
Mukorera was jointly charged with Heyman Nyika (32).
Both men are denying the charges, which were brought under Section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23).
They were arrested on February 17, 2026.
Presiding over the matter, Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Honest Musiyiwa, remanded the accused out of custody on bail, set at US$200 each to March 12 for routine remand.
The two, who were represented by Mr Farai Matinhure of Goneso and Ndlovu Legal Practitioners, were ordered to reside at their respective given addresses until the matter is finalised, not to interfere with witnesses or investigations, and to report once a fortnight on Mondays at CID Law and Order, Mutare, between 6am and 6pm.
Mr Brighton Chiromo prosecuted, and told the court that on February 9 at around 10.30am at the Government Complex, Mutare, the accused persons, together with their accomplice, Donald Matakure — who is still at large — approached Cde Jani, who was about to board his vehicle, and assaulted him with a knuckle‑duster and fists on the face.
The complainant sustained cuts on the face and a swollen eye.
A police report was made, leading to their arrest.
The other case allegedly involved Mukorera, Pension Gwinyai, and others who are still at large.
It is said to have occurred on February 1 at around 5am at Bako Night Club in Sakubva, which is owned by Mr Given Shumba.
The accused persons allegedly caused mayhem, assaulting patrons who were drinking beer, using iron bars, chairs and a Columbia knife wooden log.
The patrons reportedly ran in all directions, fearing for their safety from the accused and his accomplices.
A number of patrons were allegedly injured in the process, and public peace was disturbed.
Mukorera is also denying the allegations and was granted US$100 bail.
The matter was remanded to February 27 for routine appearance.
