“I’m so excited that the public and the judges who voted have seen potential in me, it is a humbling experience to become a tourism ambassador for my country on the international scene and I am looking forward to the challenge,” she said after being announced as the June winner.
Chiedza shrugged off competition from the Cyprus-based duo of Linda Madzara and Letwin Tiwaringe, who were the runners-up.
Chiedza’s win follows the crowning last month of Sarah van de Ruit as Miss May in the popular global online pageant emerging as one of the most exciting beauty competitions to come out of Zimbabwe.
Face of Zimbabwe, which recently signed a deal with telecoms company G-Tel as the headline sponsor, has also finalised discussions in which Rainbow Tourism Group will become a technical partner in the competition’s finale, which is to be held at the Harare International Conference Centre on December 15, 2012.
Chiedza, who looks inch-perfect in her natural African look, is primed to make waves on the international scene.
The Glen View-based beauty has previously competed in the Miss H-Metro beauty contest and in Miss Zimbabwe 2011.
United States-based musician Cee Jay Besa, who is one of the judges, said Chiedza commands presence.
Another judge, popular UK radio presenter Priscilla Nalana, described Chiedza as a “rare find” with features very much similar to Zimbabwe-born Nyasha Matonhodze, currently making waves on the international modelling circuit.
In another development, Mike Tashaya, who is Face of Zimbabwe’s marketing director, announced the appointment of Judith Claire Williams, who runs Model Management International, to the Face of Zimbabwe Board of Trustees.
“We are excited to have Judith on board and have no doubt that FOZ will benefit from her immense experience and industry knowledge. We are committed to growing Face of Zimbabwe into a national project for which all Zimbabweans can take ownership.
“We are grateful for the support we are receiving from the Zimbabwean public,” he said.
Face of Zimbabwe is a global online pageant in which Zimbabweans all over the world are eligible to enter in monthly cycles and voted for by the public.
The 12 monthly finalists will then meet at the grand finale to be held in Zimbabwe at the end of the year to select the Face of Zimbabwe for 2013.
