Chinhoyi town’s Magamba Way came to a standstill on Wednesday morning when murder suspect Nyasha Mutodi (36) was brought to Pick n Pay Supermarket for indications.

News spread fast that Mutodi, who stabbed his colleague, Tinotenda Nyamukute (38), outside the supermarket, after a misunderstanding over US$9, was being brought for indications.

The police crime scene tape got people curious, leading to news spreading fast in the town that the murder suspect will be brought to the scene.

People lined up on both sides of Magamba Way while police barricaded the road and diverted traffic.

The vehicle carrying Mutodi pulled up at TM Pick n Pay before police started their interrogation.

A seemingly unfazed Mutodi even shared lighter moments with members of the police during the indications.

“We are here to see what kind of a person could pull out a knife to stab someone over US$9. It is so painful and we want justice to be served,” said an onlooker.

Allegations against Mutodi are that he stabbed his colleague in the money changing business, Nyamukute, on May 1 at around 2.30pm after a misunderstanding over a US$9 debt.

The misunderstanding arose after Nyamakute denied owing Mutodi money after being confronted.

This did not go down well with Mutodi who allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife from his right-side pocket and stabbed Nyamukute once on the right side of the stomach, below the ribs.

Nyamukute collapsed and Mutodi tried to run away but was caught and handed over to the police at Chinhoyi Central.

He was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital before being transferred to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare where he later died.

Mutodi has since appeared before a Chinhoyi Magistrate for initial remand and will return to court on May 19.
