MUSONA TO WEAR NO.17 JERSEY

Lawrence Moyo

FORMER Warriors captain Knowledge “Smiling Assassin” Musona is set to take his favourite No. 17 shirt at Scottland despite parading the jersey number 8 at his unveiling on Monday.

While he has no history with the shirt number at club level, Musona has been wearing the number 17 jersey at the national team for almost a decade.

According to online records, Musona used the number 11 jersey more than any other since 2009 when broke onto the professional football scene.

He started at South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs where he wore the shirt number 21 until he departed for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga in 2011.

There he wore the shirt number 8 and it was the same when he moved to FC Augsburg in the same league. Musona returned to the South African Premier Soccer League for the 2013-14 season and wore the number 11 shirt.

He then moved to KV Oostende in Belgium where he spent four seasons while donning the shirt number 11.

During the 2018/19 season, Musona played for KSC Lokeren and Anderlecht in Belgium where he still wore shirt number 11.

However, things changed when he moved to KAS Eupen in the Belgian second tier where he started with shirt number 20 and then 10.

He returned to the shirt number 11 when he moved to Saudi Arabia between 2021 and this year.

At Scottland, the shirt number 11 belongs to Khama Billiat for the 2025 season and hence the decision to go for the national team shirt number. Fellow new signing, Mafios Chihweta had to settle for the number 19 shirt as the number 30 he wore at Bulawayo giants, Highlanders belongs to midfielder Mthokozisi Msebe at Scottland.

Musona and Chihweta were completing player registration formalities yesterday and might be available for selection when Scottland travel to Zvishavane for what is being touted as a “title decider”, pitting the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s in-form teams.

Current leaders and reigning champions, Simba Bhora, will obviously have a say on the destiny of the 2025 title as will newcomers, MWOS, together with former champions Ngezi Platinum and the impressive TelOne.
