‘SCOTTLAND MATCHING SUNDOWNS, CHIEFS AND PIRATES IN PACKAGES’

KICK-OFF, the leading south African online football magazine, says Scottland are paying packages which match those being paid by clubs in Supa Diski.

The magazine said Musona’s package, which runs into tens of thousands of dollars, not only makes him the best-paid player in the domestic Premiership but will match what is paid by the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kick-off said the Mabvuku side have “set themselves up on the paying ranks in the COSAFA region” and in the wake of their stunning recruitment of Knowledge Musona.

The Smiling Assassin was unveiled by the Premiership’s newboys on Monday – two days after agreeing terms with the club.

Musona’s decision to sign for a local side was one of the big stories in the South African media.

“Zimbabwe’s best paying club Scotland have set themselves up on the paying ranks in the COSAFA region with the recruitment of Knowledge Musona,” Kick-Off said in their report.

“Musona will now play top-flight football back home for the first time in his career having only played in the lower divisions when he left for Kaizer Chiefs during the winter of 2009.

“Scottland are not only shaking the Zimbabwean football landscape but have their top earning players on packages comparable to what some of the better paying clubs in the Betway Premiership pay.

“Khama Billiat, Walter Musona, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Kelvin Moyo, Ronald Pfumbidzai, and Khuda Muyaba make up some of the names at the club who have previously played across the Limpopo River.

“This website has since established that Musona’s package – which is in US Dollars, will equate to six figures in Rands, making him by far the best paid player in Zimbabwe.

“Besides his salary known to KickOff.com, which will be in double figure thousands (US dollars), the 35-year-old will first be handed a hefty signing-on fee and then be guaranteed of winning bonuses.

“His total package will be comparable to what some players get at Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns.”

“While Billiat was previously by far the highest paid player in Zimbabwe, Musona will now stretch that more double up.”

The magazine added:

“Scottland are pushing to win the league in their first season playing in the Zim PSL.

“They won promotion from the Northern Region Division One last year.

“Prior to signing for Scottland, Musona indicated that the only club he will play for in South Africa is Kaizer Chiefs.

“Chiefs are his former employers where he scored 44 goals through two spells and were offered his services, but concerns were raised about his age thus allowing him to turn to the Harare club.

“Should his paperwork be completed before the end of the week he will make his debut against FC Platinum on Saturday.”
