MOTORING Club will tomorrow (Saturday) host a Mutare welcome party for Zimbabwe’s Big Brother Africa Hotshots representative, Taririo Mharapara, better known as Butterphly.
The Power FM DJ and television presenter, arrived back home last week Wednesday from South Africa where she narrowly missed out on the $300 000 grand prize at the reality show.
Butterphly together with JJ, Zimbabwe’s second representative in the reality show made it into the top-eight finalists of the reality show which was however scooped by Tanzania’s Idris Sultan.
The 24-year old Power FM DJ who presents the lunch time show and coke on the beat segment will be escorted by another Power FM DJ, Rumbi Moyo, fondly known on radio as ‘the lady of distinction’.
Mutare’s famed music producer cum club DJ Touch will be on the turntables as the host DJ.
Motoring Club spokesperson, Lovemore Chitima on Monday confirmed that all arrangements were in place for the show.
The Mutare show will be the second welcome party for Butterphly following her Harare welcome party last weekend.
“We just want to honour Butterphly. We would have loved to have both the BBA representatives, but JJ was not available this weekend. Maybe we will organise a separate party for him soon.
“Maybe on New Year’s eve when we host ZiFM’s Judgement Yard,” said Chitima.
BBA has become the biggest reality show in Africa, with the just ended season nine drawing contestants from 14 countries across the continent.
It has over the years proven to create opportunities for participants who rise to become instant continental celebrities after a stint at the show.
Before the reality show, despite DJ Butterphly’s popularity on the local airwaves, very few people knew her, but after BBA she has become a national celebrity.
The countrywide welcome parties for BBA representatives have now become a tradition, especially for participants that would have done well.
Past BBA representatives like Munyaradzi Chidzonga (2010), Wendall Parson (2011), Vimbai Mutinhiri (2011) and urban grooves king, Rockford ‘Roki’ Josphats (2012) had countrywide welcome parties in their honour when they came back home.
