IT is surprising that some delusional people like Didymus Mutasa and his beleaguered nephew Temba Mliswa, with Rugare Gumbo, former Zanu-PF spokesperson, and their perceived leader, former Vice-President Joyce Mujuru, are failing to read between the lines that cheap politicking in Zimbabwe is no longer saleable.
They are failing to realise that the revolutionary party has come a long way to the extent that this party would not be intimidated by fly-by-night politicians as the cabal contemplates forming the so-called Zanu-People First.
Mutasa and his team’s decision to form what they call Zanu-People First is just a desperate attempt to salvage their political downfall after their dismissal from the revolutionary party. It is a fact that Mutasa and his crew are now a lost lot who cannot command any following from right-thinking people who constitute the electorate in the country.
Mutasa and crew know quite well that their political careers are all but extinct and their present deliriums are all that is left to the mighty that have fallen. Their decision to ride on the revolutionary party’s namesake is a clear indication that they are nonentities outside Zanu-PF who lack originality.
It is a fact that everyone is aware that the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF, remains a choice for any electorate in the country as proven in the recent landslide victory in by-elections in Chirumanzu-Zibagwe and Mt Darwin West. As such, Mutasa and company should test their popularity by coming up with a new name divorced from Zanu-PF. They should make it public to their supporters that they are no longer Zanu-PF by forming a party which is not linked to the revolutionary party`s name.
For the record, Mutasa and crew are quite aware that they have lost their standing as politicians of repute leading them to contemplate forming a party linked to Zanu-PF so as to remain relevant in the country. As such, their demise and sacking from Zanu-PF has brought their total downfall.
Mutasa is quite aware that his grand plan with former VP Mujuru to form a political party is heading nowhere, but since he is someone who is fond of making headlines to remain relevant as the saying goes “bad publicity is still publicity”.
In actual fact, Mutasa and his cabal should take a leaf from what happened to those who thought they were indispensable after they split from the revolutionary party and formed their own political parties. Even those who thought it necessary to do that during the armed struggle failed to get any significant following from people. It is good for him and the former VP Mujuru to read quite well the history of the armed struggle to realise how others have failed to sway support onto their favour when they alienated themselves from Zanu-PF.
In fact, former VP Mujuru should make inquiries from these disgraced comrades and learn that it is very cold outside Zanu-PF. She should know quite well that there is no short cut to success. Her dismissal from Zanu-PF as a result of leading a faction that wanted to unconstitutionally remove President Mugabe from power should be a lifetime lesson that one cannot go against the wishes of the people.
Zimbabweans have no doubt that Mujuru knows quite well how Dzinashe Machingura, a.k.a. Wilfred Mhanda, who was among the first guerillas to launch the armed struggle against Ian Smith’s regime, lost support from his counterparts.
Mhanda, who was thought to be among the top brass of the revolutionary party, died a bitter man because he sold the struggle when it was necessary for him to respect the requirements of the revolutionary party.
He was impatient with the direction the leadership of the revolutionary party was taking during the armed struggle and he thought he was big enough to challenge the status quo.
As such, the Mhanda debacle should serve as a grim reminder to Mujuru and cabal. They should realise that forming a political party meant to confuse the electorate would not revive their political fortune because they have already messed up their lives by their plot that caused their dismissal from Zanu-PF.
Furthermore, the same Mujuru cabal should not forget how Ndabaningi Sithole found himself as an ordinary man yet he was the founding president of the revolutionary party.
So it is wise for the Mujuru cabal to meditate on these notable examples and quickly realise that they are heading towards the same political demise by forming that party.
In actual fact, Mujuru and her spokesperson, Mutasa, should first ask Simba Makoni and Dumiso Dabengwa whether forming a political party outside Zanu-PF carries any weight.
The two, Makoni and Dabengwa, are the real people who are quite aware that all is not greener on the other side.
After thinking that Zanu-PF was no longer offering what they thought was due to them, the two left the revolutionary party to form their political parties and, as expected, they failed to command any notable following leading them to be condemned to the political dustbin.
In fact, forming a political party by any Zimbabwean is a democratic right, but Mujuru and her cabal should wean themselves from Zanu-PF by having a political party that has its name not associated with the revolutionary party.
They should not seek to confuse the electorate into thinking that they are still in Zanu-PF. Their so-called Zanu-People First, which the Mujuru cabal is contemplating to form, is just nothing but a project from desperate people seeking to remain relevant in the political sphere of the country.
Zimbabweans should not be misled by such people who are now seeking political relevance yet they failed to do more for the people when they were still in positions of leadership.
The concept of “people first” is just something meant to make people think that this political party is for the people but in actual fact they are only seeking to further fatten their already bloated wallets.
For that reason Zimbabweans should not be misled into thinking that this Mujuru cabal has their interests at heart. This is but a money-spinning project to trick the gullible West in parting with their funds as they did in the MDC project which has proved to be a colossal failure.
