LLOYD Mutasa says he used Mohamed Salah’s earlier struggles at Chelsea and his explosion at Liverpool to inspire his forward Billy Veremu to keep believing in himself.

Veremu, currently on loan from defending champions Simba Bhora, has already netted seven goals this season.

It’s his best return in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

His sudden scoring form has propelled MWOS up the standings and turned the once journeyman striker into a player to watch.

Having previously featured for Ngezi Platinum Stars, Bulawayo Chiefs and Simba Bhora, Veremu has seemingly found his rhythm with MWOS.

According to Mutasa, it’s not just about goals, it’s about growth.

“With these youngsters, you always try to draw comparisons to inspire them,” said Mutasa.

“For example, we talked to him about Mo Salah, how he went to Chelsea, didn’t quite hit the mark, then went to Fiorentina and Roma before finally finding his feet at Liverpool.

“We told Billy that different teams bring different experiences. You just need to give your best, and you never know, maybe this is where your foundation begins.”

Veremu’s hat-trick last weekend marked a high point in his career and underlined his impact on MWOS’s impressive campaign.

“He’s having the time of his life here,” Mutasa added. “I believe he’s already made up his mind to stay with us permanently. And if not with us, then hopefully he moves a step higher. He deserves it.”

But for Veremu, the mission is far from complete.

“I don’t have a specific target. I just want to keep scoring and help the team achieve its goals,” said the striker.

This week’s action kicks off Friday as Scotland host Chicken Inn at Rufaro.
