MUTENDI High School students have been urged to continue growing, maintain discipline and use their imagination to become the stars of tomorrow.
This comes at a time the school celebrated a milestone that has brought together a belt of achievements in both academic and extra-curricular activities over the past four decades.
The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) run school is part of the 20 institutions that sprouted from the vision to educate the less privileged of the late founder, Retired Reverend Samuel Mutendi.
Last year, the school achieved the best O-level results in its district and also had the best quality A-level results in the Masvingo province.
Recently, students from the school won a provincial prize for their innovation after making soap and bricks from egg shells.
Speaking at the celebrations that also coincided with a Speech and Prize Giving Day, school head Charity Mutendi, highlighted the school’s achievements.
“Forty years of providing a service is no mean achievement. The school has developed from a vision that was first materialised by the late Rt Reverend Samuel Mutendi.
“A vision which was taken over and even made bigger by His Grace the current Bishop and our RA Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi.
‘Tinoda kutenda Mwari we ma Elder matatu the late RA Retired Samuel, current leader Bishop Nehemiah and Engnas Mutendi,” said the headmistress.
Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi chronicled the 40-year journey.
“Four decades ago, inspired by the Right Rev Samuel Mutendi’s mission of educating the less privileged by establishing schools, we met a number of setbacks, including the destruction of such schools.
“We have persevered to create a legacy of educational excellence.
“We envisioned institutions that nurture an unwavering passion for academic learning, spiritual foster and moral accomplished excellence to transform lives,” said Bishop Nehemiah.
The school has been credited for its discipline, nurturing talent, exceptional academic skills, artistic talent and sporting excellence.
Some of the school’s old students have formed an ALUMNI Association which is involved in a number of projects at the school.
The old students include Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large Eubert Angel, Africa University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Talon Garikai, Masvingo North legislator Brian Mudhumi, and prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, among others.
Through the association, Ambassador Angel presented gifts to former members of staff, prizes to the best students and also pledged to bankroll a project worth US$500 000 at the school.
