FAILURE to take care of his three children has seen a Marange man being dragged before the courts by his ex-wife claiming $200 maintenance. Felistas Kupe described her former husband only identified as Sally M as irresponsible and was starving his children. They appeared before Mrs Yeukai Chigodora. Kupe told the court that Sally had never contributed anything towards the upkeep of their children.
“He is a borehole driller who gets a minimum of $800 every month, but for the past year he has never spared a dollar for his own children.
“I survive on selling vegetables and the $10 that I get every month is not enough for me and the children. Our children are supposed to attend school,” she said.
In response, Sally said: “I used to get borehole drilling contracts and that was then. Nowadays things are tight. Where does she expect me to get the money to take care of those three children?
“After all I gave them groceries in August last year, so how can she say I am irresponsible? I am trying, Your Worship.”
Mrs Chigodora advised Sally to work harder and fend for his family.
“I am being lenient on you this month, so from March 30 you are ordered to pay $60 as maintenance for your children,” said Mrs Chigodora.
