ZIMBABWE-BORN British singer, Tendai “NåGuG” Nelson, says she will invest in visuals to gain more traction on social media.
This follows the release of beautiful visuals for her song, Simuka, where she roped in Zimbabwean choreographer, John Cole.
“I had always wanted to make an authentic visual interpretation for the song Simuka.
“Being creative, I got lost in my creativity and was initially overwhelmed by how I could execute that vision.
“This changed when I was introduced to John Cole, reviewed his work and then connected with him.
“I knew a dance video, filmed back home and featuring young people, would be ideal.
“It would be vibrant and dance art would, hopefully, translate this to the viewer,” she said.
She said working with Cole was an amazing experience.
“Once I engaged with John Cole on the dance visual idea, he was keen and excited to collaborate, contracting and planning was executed within a week.
“Despite Covid-19 restrictions, and other concerns, project implementation including choreography, preparation, and filming was done within a week.
“The editing was done within a week.
“I learnt that if you provide resources to the young blood in Zimbabwe they are able to deliver a good product.
“It was a very pleasant experience working with John Cole and his team. He is professional and has a great business mind in the art and entertainment industry in Zimbabwe and in Africa.
“He is very creative and believes in his craft.
“During my project he was communicative and handled any setbacks with diplomacy and ensured these got resolved,” she said.
She urged fellow artists to invest in visuals, which has seen her making great strides to make an international breakthrough.
“In the time I have been working in the music industry, I have witnessed the technological changes, we now access music at the tip of our fingers.
“Being nominated for the ZIMA 2022 award has catapulted me to great heights creatively and I am in the process of continuing to create music that is relevant back home and internationally. I am looking to perform and record live in Zimbabwe in the recent future.”
