MATABELELAND North has raised cheating alarm bells ahead of the Nestle Zimbabwe National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) Physical Education and track and field athletics finals set for Bindura next week. Cheating has been rife in schools sporting competitions, leading to calls for parliament to enact laws that criminalise it. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Lazarus Dokora said such conduct was similar to corruption.
However, some teachers, the kingpins in the cheating, seem undeterred.
“If the field is level without any cheating, I’m sure my province will do well. I’m happy though that passports will now be used as one of the documents during vetting,” said the Matabeleland North Naph chairperson Charles Ndiweni.
The provincial 77-member team has been camped at Loziba Primary School in Bubi District since Tuesday and will remain there throughout the weekend until departure for Bindura on March 24.
Provincial Education Director, Boitatelo Mnguni is expected to officiate at the send-off ceremony on that day.
