National Foods donates to old people’s home

The Governor and Resident Minister for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Ambassador Cain Mathema presented the goods on behalf of the company.
He called on companies and other organisations to assist such homes that were taking care of the less privileged members of society.

The giant milling company  donated food items that included mealie-meal, salt, sugar beans and flour.
Ambassador Mathema said National Foods approached him and asked him to identify a home to donate the foodstuffs.

“After officiating at the re-opening of the National Foods flour milling plant here in Bulawayo last week officials told me the company wanted to donate some of its products to an orphanage of my choice and I settled for Thembiso Children’s Home,” he said.

Ambassador Mathema said homes such as Thembiso were undertaking an important responsibility on behalf of society.
“They are looking after  children whose parents have either died or are unable to look after them adequately.

“Certainly a donation that   includes two tonnes of maize meal, 200kgs of pasta, 30kgs of salt, 50kgs of sugar beans, 100kgs of flour and two cartons of cooking oil is a very substantial donation indeed,” he said.
Receiving the donation the  home’s superintendent, Mr Busiso Maphala said the donation came at the right time and would channel the funds meant for buying food to other needs.
“This donation will help us look at other things such as school fees as we have a monthly bill for food of $8 000. I think we shall order food towards the end of March,” he said.
