National hero Mushore body taken to farm

The body of national hero, Cde Luke Mushore, was yesterday airlifted to his Centenary Farm in Mashonaland Central province ahead of burial tomorrow at the national shrine on Monday.

President Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the burial at the National Heroes Acre.

Cde Mushore (76), affectionately known as Dick Joboringo, is a former Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland Central province and a legislator.

In an interview yesterday, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe said the body was expected at his Barbon Farm in Centenary.

It will then be taken to Harare tomorrow, where will lie in state at Charles Gumbo Barracks before burial on Monday.

Cde Mushore (76), died on June 13 and his death has left a void in the hearts of many, with officials expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the veteran of the liberation struggle.

He was among the early freedom fighters, having joined the liberation struggle in 1972 and was revered for his steadfast commitment both during and after the war.

He made immense contribution to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and post-independence development, playing an active role in land reform and empowering local communities.

After independence, Cde Mushore established a thriving farm in Centenary, which became centre of excellence for its outstanding agricultural productivity.
