NEES LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER LOGA

IN all of Felton Kamambo’s madness as the ZIFA president, he got it right when he  came to the conclusion the Warriors were not safe in the hands of the Croatian coach, Zvravko Logarusic.

Kamambo is the same former ZIFA boss who said Logarusic had coached in many continents in Zimbabwe when he was unveiling the Croatian gaffer to the media five years ago.

Ironically, Kamambo made the decision to replace Loga, who had registered just two wins in 14 assignments, on this day four years ago.

To him, it did not matter that Loga had qualified the Warriors for the 2021 AFCON tournament.

Loga only recorded four points to book the Warriors’ ticket to Africa’s flagship competition.

Local coach Joey Antipas had recorded four points in the first two rounds of the AFCON qualifiers, something that made it possible for Loga to brag as the first foreign mentor to achieve that mark.

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was entrusted with the assignment to take the Warriors to the AFCON that year in Cameroon.

The Warriors are now in the hands of the German gaffer, Michael Nees, who has now presided over a dozen assignments, including friendlies.

Sadly, Nees is more than confident that he will take the Warriors to the AFCON finals scheduled for Morocco in December. The Warriors have celebrated a win just twice since his arrival.

Many analysts are beginning to say Nees is a cut from the same cloth that made Loga and has overstayed his welcome.

But, it is only ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi who has the license to make any decision regarding Nees’s future.

There is no denying that Nees looks down upon the domestic Premiership, to the point that he does not see any shame in ignoring the league’s leading goal-scorer and players of the leading team in the country.

The only one he called from Simba Bhora was drafted on match day.

Former CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe once described Nees as a clown.

He said was getting things done his way simply because he is a foreign coach.

Nees responded by saying that if it was in other countries, Chitembwe could have been punished for his choice of words.

But the brutal reality is that in other countries, Nees could also have been fired or forced to resign for the statistics he has displayed so far.

Nees’s statistics are as bad as if he has only played against European countries in his games in charge.

The Warriors suffered a 0-1 loss at the hands of Rwanda in their last game of the international break on Tuesday in South Africa. Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche told journalists that he was shocked to see Warriors striker Knowledge Musona playing as a central midfielder in that clash.

“When I saw Knowledge Musona on the field, I couldn’t help but think he could make a difference any time.

“And I was happy when I saw him playing a bit deeper.

“But I know that when you play Zimbabwe with all the quality, individual quality they have, for me, it’s like I always have something to be afraid of.

“And Knowledge is one of the best individual players on the continent.”

Nees had also deployed Musona in the same position in the Warriors’ 0-1 defeat against Benin in Abidjan on Friday.
