STATE-OWNED mobile network operator, NetOne, has donated Christmas groceries worth $300 000 to Zororai Old People’s Home in Sakubva.

In a press statement released by NetOne today, the company’s head of marketing and public relations, Ms Roselyn Chisveto, said the charity work initiative is part of the mobile network giant’s mandate to transform and develop communities.

“The initiative will see a total of up to five selected orphanages and old people’s homes across the country benefitting during the festive season,” reads the statement.

The donation comes at a time when the home, which houses thirteen residents, is struggling to make ends meet as it is currently running with no consistent funder, according to
Zororai Old People’s Home administrator, Mr Gondai Gondo.

He thanked NetOne for sharing its Christmas cheer with the elderly by spending time and bonding with them this morning.

“Thank you for bringing this festive mood here today. Your love and willingness to spend some time with our grandparents here today has given them reason to smile as most of them do not have families and only depend on such visits,” he said.

NetOne promised to continue rolling out the initiative annually to different less privileged homes who are often left out.

“Christmas is a time to share love and at such a time it is important to reach out and put a smile on someone’s face, Zororai Old People’s home included,” said Ms Chisveto.
