NetOne’s Kangai to grace ZNCC awards

MOBILE network operator, NetOne managing director, Mr Reward Kangai will be the guest of honour at this year’s edition of the Manicaland Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce awards slated for tonight at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare.The annual provincial business awards recognise business excellence and achievements.

This year’s awards are running under the theme; “Promoting Zim-Asset through job creation and innovative business ideas.”

ZNCC regional manager for Manicaland and Chiredzi, Ms Perpetual Guwila said all was in place for the awards as everyone braced to see who will be awarded this year’s top accolade of businessman and businesswoman of the year.

Ms Guwila said as usual they identified new players excelling in business particularly in the Small to Medium Enterprises sector.

She added that this year they added categories that would acknowledge efforts being made by financial service providers, parastatals and State institutions in steering development and economic growth in the country.

“All is in place for the awards. Each year we try to identify new players excelling to encourage not only the long established players, but start-up businesses as well.

“The new economic driver is the SME’s sector and we are trying to break through in this sector to acknowledge their current critical role in employment creation revenue flows to the fiscus,” said Ms Guwila.

Ms Guwila said they chose this year’s guest of honour because of his vast experience at the helm of one of the county’s leading mobile network provider, NetOne.

“Mr Kangai has vast experience in business. His experience as a businessman in his own right and managing director of NetOne should be of relevance to our theme on innovativeness,” said Ms Guwila.

Winners of regional awards will represent their provinces at the national awards that will be held during the ZNCC congress in Victoria Falls from June 24 to 26.

“This year’s congress will be held under the theme “Addressing competitiveness challenges in the emerging economy”.

Last year, Mr Samuel Tauya of Golly Bakery wrote his own history after scooping the second runner-up businessman of the year award at the national awards.

Mr Tauya became the second Manicaland businessman to get acknowledged at the national awards joining ZNCC national president Mr Hlanganiso Matangaidze who still stand as the only Manicaland businessperson to have scooped the national award in 2006.

Rusape’s wholesaler and retailer, Mr John Masamvu of J. Masamvu and Family (Pvt) Ltd, scooped the national rural businessman of the year award.
