AT LEAST two million Zimbabweans without national identification documents (IDs) and birth certificates will be issued with the crucial civil documents during a three-month-long mobile registration drive that begins on April 1.
This was said by Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe during a press briefing in Harare on Wednesday.
He was speaking after meeting Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCO) chairperson and national commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) General Khehla John Sithole.
“We will give identity documents – be it birth certificates, national IDs and passports – to more than two million Zimbabweans across the country during the registration blitz,” he said.
“The blitz will be launched on April 1, 2022 and will run for three months. If everyone has an identity, this will help us in curbing crime.”
