The Youth Corporation has successfully restored the Nokma Lok Housing project, which is expected to yield around 3 000 residential stands.

Speaking during the Urban Development Corporation meeting in Harare on Thursday, National Housing and Social Amenities Deputy Minister Musa Ncube said the Youth Corporation was back on track to contribute to national development.

“The corporation is now back on track and well poised to contribute to National Development Strategy 1, where we expect to play a key role under the housing delivery thematic areas,” he said.

“We are pleased to note that the corporation has finally managed to resuscitate the Nokma Lok housing project which will yield around 3 000 stands.

“The Nokma Lok has been stalled since December 2019 and the recommencement is indeed a key milestone.”

Chief director spatial planning and development in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Mr Shingirai Mushamba, said Government planned to regularise informal settlements and provide secure land tenure, acknowledging the challenges faced in the past.

“Settlements that were established in privatisation, including the issuance of proper title, the processes of regulation require that there be an approved layout plan, approved by respective local authority, working in partnership with other entities,” he said.
